Match Report

Kinsale Community College V PBC Thursday 13th October, 2011.

With a strong squad, Pres easily defeated Kinsale Community College on a crisp Thursday morning in Kinsale.
Key in terms of attack, left & right backs Jonathan Russell-Hull and Jack Austin were seemingly playing as secondary wingers such was the distance up the pitch they would run. Diarmuid Creedon and Eoin Cummins bossed midfield and were more than capable of breaking down opposition attacks. In the unlikely event that they failed to do so, Pres could rely on centre backs Daragh Kiely and Cian Davis to clear any danger.

There was an early shout for a penalty when winger David Grant appeared to be pulled down inside the box, but the referee waved play on.

With both teams settling into the game, Pres calmed any early nerves by drawing first blood. After receiving the ball on the right, Jack crossed it into the area where Dave Barry cleverly flicked it on to winger Ben Kendellen, who had all the time in the world to find the far corner of the goal.

Jack was again involved in Pres’ next attack, as the lead was doubled. His pass infield actually turned into an assist as Eoin drove up the pitch and his long-range effort found the net.
A reply was instantaneous as a Kinsale winger found space on the right & fired in a shot which just evaded the grasp of goalkeeper James Foley.

Half-time allowed for one change: Tom Monahan on in place of Jack. Tom scored almost instantly, albeit via a deflection, but none the less a goal he will claim anyway.

It was quickly a case of déjà vu as Kinsale again replied within minutes. James did very well initially to keep out a fierce downward header but could do little to stop the rebound being blazed in.
Pres eventually began to dominate & were rewarded with two goals in quick succession. First, Cian assisted in Dave Barry’s goal with a clever through ball. Soon after, it was Barry who turned provider for Dave Walsh.
With minutes remaining, Adam Cohalan added a gloss to the score-line when his near-post cross was inadvertently put in the net by one of the Kinsale centre backs.

The game now done & dusted, more than half of the team were given a well deserved rest. Substitutes Micheal Sheehan, Luke Gayer, Jeff Jones, Cathal Walsh, Brian Walsh, Rory Holohan & Gerard O’ Connell all entering the fray.
Kinsale did grab a very late consolation goal leaving a full-time score of; Kinsale 3-6 Pres.
